Homemade Natural Laundry Detergent

Easy recipe. I wash in hot or warm and use 1-3 scoops depending on the load size.

Sam's Homemade Laundry Powder

Tools & Ingredients:

  • Box- I use an old laundry detergent box.

  • Scoop- I use an old laundry detergent scoop.

  • Stirring utensil- I use a fork.

  • Measuring cup, optional.

  • Borax- its a natural deodorizer powder. I got mine at Canadian Tire.

  • Baking powder- I like to find an aluminum-free one if possible.

  • Sea salt

  • Glycerine, glycerine soap, or plain natural soap

  • Measure out equal amounts of borax and baking soda and put them in the box. I usually use 2 cups of each.

  • Shred your soap bar into box and stir well.

  • Add 2-4tbsp of sea salt.

  • It's done, you are ready for some laundry!

I pair my laundry powder with a homemade herbal liquid laundry, which I will post soon. Sam's Natural Laundry Liquid contains essential oils, soap berry, vinegar and a little sunflower oil. I believe the 2 of these together make a great team, leaving the laundry soft and smelling however we like!

In terms of regular washes, I love this laundry powder. When cleaning whites, I still like to add a scoop of a natural version of Oxyclean powder to ensure whites stay white.

For a small load I use 1.5 scoops powder + 3tbsp liquid.
