On a nature hike, we mist the under carriage of our dogs to prevent ticks too. We have Siberian huskies, and find this really helps, because they are tick magnets! 
In the garden. I especially mist my ankles and feet. 
Camping. The best protection here will be covering up with long sleeves and misting clothes. Smoke from the fire is a great bug deterrent. 
Ants in the kitchen or at an entry way. Wipe with a vinegar solution and then mist with Bug Spray.
