How I started making soap...
Were you aware that soap-making was a typical activity among homesteaders? Rather than relying on exotic oils brought from far-off lands, a surplus of fat from animal resources produced candles, soaps, and balms.
When I first met Brian, he had just started working at our local farm and butcher shop. One day, he asked how we could repurpose extra fat to minimize waste. Aside from making homemade lard and tallow for cooking, I remembered a handbook I had in my travel bag. It explained how to create homemade soap using rendered tallow and lard. At the time, finding this book was surprising to me, as I had previously been vegan and vegetarian for several years... nevertheless, I thought it was interesting, so had tucked it away.Â
No traditional civilization survives by wasting their resources; every part of animals, plants, and the Earth is utilized or we do not deserve to harvest it in the first place.

We began making soap. So much soap! I felt like I was getting in touch with the reality of the circle of life, reducing waste, and best of all, this soap was the best soap I have ever used. It glided over my skin, disappeared my scars, moisturized, cleared my acne, and for the first time in my life, I didn't need lotions.
Another bonus, I didn't need a product for each specific part of my body. Our soap and product line quickly gained the slogan "HAIR2TOE," because our products are multiuse!
